I helped turn a complex master data management concept into Transforming Business with Master Data Management, a Stibo Systems special-edition book created with the familiar For Dummies educational brand. The goal was to make an enterprise technology topic approachable while creating a scalable global awareness and lead-generation asset.
At Stibo Systems, I was the VP of Product and Industry Marketing, responsible for helping the market understand the business value of master data management (MDM). Our audience was enterprise organizations managing fragmented customer, product, supplier, and location data across siloed systems and regions. The buyers involved both business and technology stakeholders, but MDM was difficult to explain in terms that connected with their day-to-day priorities.
The trigger was a recurring pattern across sales feedback, customer and prospect responses, and repeated buyer questions: people understood that their data was chaotic, but struggled to see what MDM would change for the business. That combination of inputs showed me we needed a more approachable way to introduce the category—one that translated a complex enterprise technology concept into practical outcomes and gave prospects a clear starting point.
Enterprise buyers were dealing with data chaos: siloed ERP instances, manual data-entry errors, and disconnected systems across regions. The conventional response would have been a dense 10–20-page whitepaper—an asset many buyers would never read. We needed to shift the conversation from technical features to practical business outcomes and give prospects a non-threatening way to start with the fundamentals.
Our original activation plan also called for 10,000 printed copies across North America, Europe, and APAC. COVID-19 lockdowns began just as the print run arrived, eliminating tradeshows, closing offices, and making traditional direct mail less effective.
Spread the word and give this marketer’s work the audience it deserves.

I partnered closely with the content marketing lead to translate technical specifications into outcome-centric stories. Rather than launching the book as a standalone asset, we built a synchronized content ecosystem around it, including a global webinar series covering topics such as data transparency, digital business hub strategy, product data, and multidomain data.
When the pandemic disrupted the physical campaign, we quickly pivoted to a digital air-cover campaign. Sales teams used digital copies of the book as personalized, targeted email openers for executive buyers working remotely. We continued using physical copies where appropriate, while giving sales a flexible way to engage prospects digitally.
I used a small set of tools to turn the book into a coordinated campaign rather than a one-off asset.
This was before GenAI, so the work was deliberately human-led. Translating a complex subject into credible business language required judgment from marketing and sales, and the campaign timing made speed and practical coordination more important than experimentation with emerging tools. The webinar program and its cadence, combined with direct sales outreach, mattered most. I would use that combination again: the technology supported the motion, but the repeated content touchpoints and human follow-up drove engagement.
In its first year, the campaign generated:
The campaign also expanded the global contact base: 83% of created contacts were net-new, while 16% re-engaged the existing database. The combination of an approachable anchor asset, companion content, and agile sales enablement opened regional conversations and converted a complex technology subject into a measurable awareness and lead-generation engine.
