Give patches to members
Gift a Toasted Marshmallow or Rare Gem from a profile, case study, or comment.
Each cycle you have one Toasted Marshmallow and one Rare Gem to gift. The set replenishes on a shared 30-day boundary. You cannot gift a patch to yourself.
- On another member's public profile, Give Marshmallow sits in the header. On a published case study at
/c/{slug}, Award Rare Gem sits in the hero. On a comment, Give Marshmallow sits next to that comment's author. The tooltip reads Give {name} Patch ({n} left), Already given this cycle, or None left to give this cycle.

-
Treat the three anchors as separate targets. Give Marshmallow on a profile has no case-study anchor. Give Marshmallow on a comment anchors to that comment. Award Rare Gem must anchor to the published case study and gifts to that story's author. Dusted does not put Award Rare Gem on a profile or a comment.
-
Click the control when it is available. The dialog title is You are about to gift a patch. The coral control is Gift Patch. Cancel closes without gifting. If you own the target, the reason is You cannot give a patch to yourself.
-
Click Gift Patch. While Dusted writes, the control reads Gifting…. A successful gift changes the title to Patch gifted and the body reads You have {n} {name} Patch remaining until {month day}. Click Dismiss. The original control becomes Give Marshmallow given or Award Rare Gem given.
-
If you already gifted this target, Dusted can show You already gave this patch here this cycle. If you have no remaining gifts, the error is You have no patches left to give this cycle. Other failures can read Could not give patch, This patch cannot be given here, or This member or content is not available.
-
After a successful gift, that member's Patches row can show Toasted Marshmallow or Rare Gem. There is no revoke control. Gift Toasted Marshmallow for helpfulness or kindness, and Rare Gem when a published case study felt novel or clever.
