How vendor mentions work

Tools you tag in a case study link to the vendor profile behind that tool.

A catalog tool you tag can open /vendors/{slug}. A submitted tool stays on the case study.

  1. In the editor, click into The context, The challenge, The approach, The tools, or The result. Type / and choose a catalog tool. Catalog tools belong to an admin-managed vendor. They are the tags that can open /vendors/{slug}.

  1. Click Preview. The sidebar heading is Tools mentioned, not The tools. Catalog tools you tagged and tools you added appear by name. An empty list reads None yet. The published reading page uses the same Tools mentioned heading.

  2. On Tools mentioned, a catalog tool with a vendor page is a link to /vendors/{slug}. In the article body, the same / tag is also a link to /vendors/{slug}.

  3. Add new tool adds a submitted tool that is used only on this case study. Submitted tools do not join the global catalog. They do not appear in / search on other case studies. They do not appear in Most Loved Gear. They do not create or update a public vendor page.

  4. On Tools mentioned, a submitted tool has no vendor slug. If it has a safe http:// or https:// URL, the row opens that URL in a new tab. If it has no URL, the row is not a link. Neither path is /vendors/{slug}. Submitted tools are stored under a system vendor whose slug is user-submitted. That slug is not a public vendor page.

  5. Featured In, Recent Mentions, and Mentions over time count published, non-deleted case studies that tagged this vendor's catalog tools. A draft tag does not appear there. After Publish, open /vendors/{slug} and check Recent Mentions.

  6. Gear on /profile is built from active catalog tools on your published case studies. Type @ when you want a person. A collaborator's employer can also link to /vendors/{slug} when that byline matches a catalog vendor. That is a profile byline, not a Tools mentioned row.

Tag the tools you used covers / and Add new tool. Show your gear covers the profile row those catalog mentions create.
